The Word on The Street is

November 12, 2012, I officially became a Martha Beck Master Life Coach!  It was also my daughter’s birthday which makes for one extra special day!

At the dinner celebration, as part of the Master Coach tradition, Martha invited us to choose a new name for ourselves.  When it was my turn, I stood up, raised my glass and said, Woman on Fire!  In this moment, I could feel myself shedding a new skin.

Together, we meet at the threshold of sacred mystery, helping to quiet our voices and attune our hearing toward the divine.

“We are the coaches of the world!”

A  few weeks later, I received a beautiful plaque with these words written on it:

Each Fall, monarch butterflies in Maine begin an unbelievable journey to a hilltop in Mexico. How do they do it?  They focus on the goal, not the difficulties.  Each day they take their bearings and set off, allowing their instincts and desires to steer them.  They accept what comes: some winds blow them off course, others speed them along.  They keep flying until, one day, they arrive.

Your determination makes all the difference!

Reading this gave me goosebumps.

And once again, I had come full circle.  Read about my journey coming full circle.

From all my life experiences, I have taken away this and will leave you with these words!

Focus on the Positive!  Refuse to have Limits!  Have an open Heart!

Woman on Fire

Women on fire: Trust yourself

Are you a woman on fire?

What does this mean to you?

Love with hugs,

Your SoulFit Sista,

Declare the Month of January

Make time for yourself!

I’m declaring the Month of January to the full immersion of self love, self care, self acceptance and it will be like a month long retreat.

I’m going to focus on me like my life depends on it.  I’ve been neglecting my self a little, focusing too much on my business (that I so adore) and other people.

I’m declaring January as the month, I come back home to myself!

While I do have a few business projects I’m working on, I do not have any 1-on-1 coaching clients this month.  If you’re reading this and would like to work with me, I’d be happy to do so in February!

I do have a family.  So besides getting my daughter off to school in the morning, homework, after school activities and cooking dinner, the only main activities I will engage in are hot yoga, blogging and naps.

I signed up for the Ultimate Blog Challenge because I love the connection with other blogging enthusiast and “celebrating” one another.

I plan to complete 30 Bikram Yoga classes in 30 days.  I’ve never done this before but have wanted to for years now.  I never did it because I didn’t have the time.  Now that I’ve created the time and made this a priority, I’ll let you know how it goes!  This reminds me of a fellow coach and friend’s new book that was just released.  It’s called, There’s Not Enough Time.

There is a pattern for January that I’m seeing.  I’ll call it the 30-30-30.  Each 30 stands for each 30 day adventure.

30 days of blogging and celebrating!

30 days of hot yoga! Yum!

30 days of self love and self care! Going deeper and focusing on me!

Tell me, have you ever created a retreat for yourself?  What are some things you like to do to spend quality time with yourself?

Your SoulFit Sista,

Are You Facing Adversity? Draw Near to Dragonfly

There is a dragonfly fluttering outside my kitchen window (at this moment) as I sit and write playing catch up in the Ultimate Blog Challenge.   I am so filled will awe and appreciation for  being on the path that  gives life to my purpose here on Earth.  Every time I see a dragonfly, I  am encouraged  and feel acknowledged from the source that feeds us all,  that I am in alignment  with my purpose and with fulfillment of divine  will.

My first experience with dragonfly was in Sedona, Arizona,  in the  spring of 2007. I was taking a much needed time-out for myself.  My mom  had recently passed away, and this led  me on the path to take better  care of myself, and to do the healing work I  currently do.

Before my magical 5-day stay in Sedona, I had never even  heard of a  dragonfly!  And now they were  all around me.  From my first drawing   from a deck of Indian Medicine Cards,   the dragonfly spoke to me.  As I   read dragonfly wisdom, it confirmed my inner truth and helped me to  overcome  adversity in my lifeIn this moment I  could see the gift that was mine — being able to see past the illusions of my  difficult circumstances. I felt more aligned and centered with my  purpose.

The dragonfly  teaches us how to balance emotion and mental clarity  and control.  Dragonfly medicine works in a two-year  cycle.  If the  dragonfly has come into  your life, you can expect change within this  time period.  Dragonfly people need to honor their health by  spending  time outdoors in the sunlight near streams or lakes. The dragonfly also teaches us to see through our own illusions.

The dragonfly is a reminder that when our deeper thoughts rise  to the surface we must pay attention. There  are lessons to be learned.  We are also reminded that what we think is   actually directly proportionate to what we “see on the surface.” In   short, our thoughts (even the deeper ones that we might not be as much  in touch  with as we are with our conscious thoughts) are responsible  for what we see in  our lives — in our physical surroundings.

The dragonfly gives us a very powerful meditation tool. Close your eyes and focus on a thought,  allowing it to rise to the  surface of your mind’s ocean.  Can you see that thought float lightly up  to  the water’s surface?  Now visualize that  thought moving across  that water.

This exercise is useful when we  want to visualize positive outcomes in a situation.  We see the thought of  hope happily moving across an  ocean of peace (peaceful mind) and gliding to a  perfect outcome.

Breaks illusions,
Brings visions of power,
No need to prove it,
Now is the hour!
Know it, believe it,
Great Spirit intercedes,
Feeding you, blessing you,
Filling all your needs.
When the dragonfly appears, transformation will  begin.
At times you  may feel like you  are fire-walking your way through life (dragonflies  are really mini dragons  after all!), and yet what is emerging from  within you is a sense of your own inner power and faith in a Higher  Power that no one can ever take from you!   You are in the  process of coming to know and understand who you truly  are and  connecting with the vast source of power and energy that was given to   you by Spirit at the time your Soul came into being.
This power has  grown within you as you have  journeyed through space and time.  Now is the time for it to be claimed as your own in this life so  you may step forth renewed as the powerful Soul that you are!
Your SoulFit Sista,

In need of self-compassion

I heard a sound and it didn’t sound normal.  I wasn’t hit and I didn’t think I was moving that fast.  I looked around my shoulder at my 8 yr. old daughter in the backseat.  She’s not startled.  That must be one good book!  “Do you hear that?” I asked?

“No. What?” Autumn said.

I knew the answer but couldn’t believe it.  I didn’t want to believe it.  My stomach started feeling woozy.  “Did I hit that car?”

Autumn looked out of the window.  “Something fell off, a piece of rubber.”

Oh shit. Oh no. It’s real!  I have never been in an accident before and now I hit a parked car!

“Oh no, she didn’t!”

“Oh yes, I did!”

For the past six weeks, I’ve been making a big effort on practicing having self-compassion for myself.  At the end of August I went to Tallahassee Florida for a TRE 3-day workshop.  TRE stands for tension and trauma release exercise.

And while I am super excited about the impact TRE can have on humanity as a whole, that’ll have to be another blog:-)

The facilitator mentioned the importance of having self-compassion for yourself and why this is so important when working with clients.  It’s hard to sit with a client and tell them when they may be being to hard on themselves and to give themselves a break if you are unable to have compassion for yourself.

“Our clients can feel this!  It feels icky!”

This really hit a nerve with me because for the past couple of months, I have been really hard on myself and self-compassion was nowhere to be found.

As healers, coaches and healthcare professionals, it’s very important to practice self compassion.  By having compassion for ourselves, we teach not only our clients but our family and friends to have self-compassion.

They can feel our energy.  When we are grounded within ourselves and have self-compassion, we are able to be of the most service.

When the reality of what I had just done sank in, I was faced with two choices.

I could have beat myself up about it. “Dana, look at what’ve done.  You’re such a dumb-@$$!” or I could have practiced self-compassion.

I chose to turn this incident into an opportunity to practice having self-compassion for myself.  My first thoughts were, “Have compassion.  How would you react to a friend?  Treat yourself with kindness.”

I took a deep breath and imagined giving myself a hug.  This is what I would have done if my friend was upset.

It’s your turn!

    1. Treat yourself how you would treat a friend or loved one.
    2. Acknowledge that you are having a human experience.
    3. Give yourself a hug.
    4. Allocate time to rest and reset.
    5. Repeat.

Are you too hard on yourself? Are your days filed with negative self-talk?

Share ways you show self-compassion.
